                         Who I Am and What I Do

I am a senior software engineer, database designer, and sysadmin.

I specialize in Perl/PostgreSQL (or MySQL) web apps and web services,
but I've also built financial software, TCP/IP servers, and VoIP phone systems.
In a past life, I was a Unix sysadmin.  I learn new technologies quickly,
independently, and off the clock.

I enjoy partnering with my customers, bridging the gap between technical
details and business results.  I pride myself on keeping stakeholders
informed and happy, and delivering on time, on budget, and on scope.

                         What I've Done (Selections)

        Web Services

- Rewrote a legacy stock-trading system as an OO Perl SOAP service (intranet).
- Performance-tuned a client's Apache/mod_perl RESTful web service.
- Designed an Apache app server using custom mod_perl handlers, REST, and XML.
- Wrote a RESTful HTTP provisioning server in C++, with client code in Java.

        Web Sites

- Rewrote a profitable legacy web site in Catalyst, using PostgreSQL.
- Ran a client's eval of Apache::ASP, TT, and HTML::Mason (they chose Mason).
- Wrote a Perl/Sybase stock data "drill-down" app for portfolio managers.

        Other

- Wrote a Perl/Tk GUI visualizer for SIP transactions.
- Added audit-mandated login data to a custom Sarbanes-Oxley database (Sybase).

                         Education

BA (cum laude) with majors in cognitive science and classical studies - Greek,
Indiana University, 1995-1999.

                         Professional Activities

Presented sessions on Asterisk IVR programming at the first O'Reilly Emerging
Telephony Conference (2006) and at CodeCon (2006).

President since 2001 of San Francisco Perl Mongers (programming language
users' group).  Book and coordinate presentations; give talks; run mailing list.
